Khartoum, August 30, 2026 (SUNA) – Professor Gasim Badri, in a recorded address played during the press conference of the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Committee on Sunday at Al-Salam Rotana Hotel, said the initiative was launched out of the conviction that Sudanese people are capable of resolving their own problems and engaging in direct dialogue “without intervention or mediation, and without exclusion or condescension.” He said the initiative comes at a “critical historical moment” in the nation’s journey, with the aim of reviving the spirit of dialogue among Sudanese and bringing them together. Badri explained that the initiative is based on several key principles, most notably complete independence from any external influence and from ethnic or factional barriers. It also seeks to encourage negotiators and dialogue participants to formulate the issues, reach final recommendations, and work towards their implementation. He stressed that all political groups, despite their differing positions, aspire to the stability of Sudan, noting that the initiative is primarily driven by love for the country and the desire to end the suffering of citizens caused by the war, its destruction, and the threat it poses to the country’s future. Badri said the initiative represents an “independent national gesture of reconciliation” aimed at ending the war, preventing further fighting, and returning the country to a path that preserves the achievements of the state, the stability of its institutions, and the well-being of its citizens. He added that what distinguishes the initiative is its openness to different parties, while emphasizing the importance of the state providing the necessary security guarantees for dialogue participants and creating a safe environment for dialogue, alongside a commitment to honoring pledges and implementing the initiatives and outcomes agreed upon. In concluding his address, Badri wished the conference success and expressed hope that it would help advance the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue towards achieving peace and stability.BH/BH
