
Amman, Oct. 1 (Petra) – At least 26 people were killed on Wednesday when a boat capsized on the Niger River in south-central Nigeria, local authorities said.
Kingsley Femi Fanwo, spokesman for Kogi State, said in a statement on the X platform that initial information confirmed the deaths of no fewer than 26 passengers.
The boat was carrying traders traveling from Ibaji in Kogi State to a market in Illushi, Edo State, on the opposite bank of the river when it overturned, he added.
