
Doha, Feb. 13 (Petra) – The 51st meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for the Middle East has successfully concluded in Doha, with Jordan participating alongside other regional stakeholders.
The event brought together tourism ministers, senior officials, and industry experts from across the Middle East, as well as representatives from the UNWTO.
Organized by Qatar Tourism, the meeting focused on reviewing the performance of the tourism sector for 2024-2025, while also addressing future policy directions and strategic plans. A key area of discussion was the significant role that major sporting events play in shaping tourism in the Middle East, with a focus on their potential to drive sustainable tourism and the integration of technology to enhance the sports tourism experience.
Delegates also explored ways to strengthen regional cooperation in positioning the Middle East as a leading global destination for sports tourism. In this context, the meeting highlighted the influence of sports in building and promoting destination brands throughout the region.
Saad bin Ali Al Kharj, Chairman of Qatar Tourism, emphasized that the meeting provided a valuable platform for enhancing regional collaboration, and facilitating the exchange of ideas and expertise to solidify the Middle East’s standing as a distinctive global tourism hub.
