Jerash, Aug. 13 (Petra) – The Agricultural Credit Corporation (ACC) – Jerash branch has launched a series of development and financing initiatives to support small farmers and local communities, aiming to reduce poverty and unemployment while enhancing sustainable economic and social empowerment in the governorate.
Branch head Mohammad Qarar’a told Petra that a microfinance project targeting poverty and unemployment assisted 63 beneficiaries with a total financing value of JD 190,650. The projects encompassed goat and beekeeping ventures, as well as home-based food production.
He added that a self-employment loan program benefited 16 individuals with JD 67,000 in financing. Projects under this initiative included establishing fruit and vegetable shops, dairy processing, natural soap production, and household food products.
To promote financial inclusion for vulnerable groups, the branch implemented a dedicated project for military casualties in partnership with the Hashemite Commission for Military Casualties, providing one beneficiary with a JD 5,000 loan under favorable terms.
In support of livestock breeders, programs for sheep, cattle, and horse farmers assisted 89 beneficiaries with a total of JD 235,680 in interest-free, collateral-free loans for individuals holding Ministry of Agriculture-certified feed cards.
Additional Foundation projects financed 186 beneficiaries, totaling around one million Jordanian dinars. These projects included land reclamation, agricultural housing construction, water well drilling, and productive initiatives in agriculture, livestock, and home-based agri-food processing, reflecting the Foundation’s efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods and agricultural infrastructure.
Qarar’a noted that overall, the institution’s programs have benefited 355 individuals, with total financing reaching approximately JD 1.6 million. Structured bond and input screen programs under the income study framework have supported beneficiaries with JD 173,423, alongside JD 98,841 in additional assistance for other participants.
The branch also promoted an interest-free loan program worth JD 15,000 with a one-year grace period, targeting farmers and agricultural producers under special circumstances.
Strengthening institutional cooperation, the ACC signed an agreement with the World Food Program to finance pioneering agricultural projects for low-income applicants. Citizens can submit requests through a dedicated electronic platform, with guidance available to help select suitable projects.
Qarar’a highlighted a media campaign across social media and local outlets to inform the community about available financing programs, application procedures, and eligibility. He emphasized ACC’s ongoing commitment to supporting the agricultural sector, enabling citizens to engage in productive projects that improve livelihoods, reduce poverty and unemployment, and promote balanced development in Jerash Governorate.
