Aqaba Water Welcomes Iraqi Delegation to Share Best Practices in Water Management

Aqaba, May 14 (Petra) — A delegation from Iraq’s Nineveh Water Directorate, along with representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), visited the Aqaba Water Company (AW) on Wednesday. The visit was part of a technical mission focused on learning from Aqaba’s advanced water management practices and the use of cutting-edge systems and technologies.

Organized by a multidisciplinary research consultancy in collaboration with the ICRC, the visit aimed to strengthen regional cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise between organizations in the water sector.

During the visit, Wael Al-Duwairi, AW General Manager, highlighted the importance of sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration among Arab institutions. He emphasized how such exchanges contribute to strengthening ties and enhancing the technical and operational capabilities of each country’s water sector. Al-Duwairi also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the ICRC and the consultancy team in organizing the visit.

The delegation was provided with an overview of the Aqaba Water Company’s history, its evolution in terms of legislation and technology, and a detailed explanation of the modern systems employed by the company, including automated operational and administrative processes.

The delegation also discussed the key technical challenges Aqaba faces in water management, such as dealing with population growth, urbanization, water distribution, and the implementation of smart meters and metering systems. The role of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) in managing data and customer services was also explained.

The visit included a tour of the company’s water treatment plant, where the delegation was introduced to the latest water treatment technologies and environmental solutions, including the use of renewable energy to power the plant.

This visit underscores Aqaba Water’s commitment to being a regional leader in water management and its readiness to share its experiences and best practices to help improve water systems in neighboring countries.
