Arab League calls for full Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon

Cairo, Feb 16 (Petra) — The Arab League Sunday called for a total Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon on the agreed-upon date.

In a statement, the league denounced Israel’s “procrastination” in implementing the withdrawal under a ceasefire deal, which Israel agreed to extend until February 18.

Any procrastination in this regard means deliberately inviting a crisis, said Secretary-General of the pan-Arab organization Ahmed Aboul Gheit, adding that the guarantors of the deal should exert enough pressure on the Israeli occupation (authority) “to adhere to what has been pledged.”

He expressed the Arab League’s full solidarity with Lebanon in its clear and decisive rejection of an Israeli presence in any points after the completion of the withdrawal, or postponing the withdrawal again under “unacceptable pretexts.”
