Cairo, July 22 (Petra) – The Arab League Council on Tuesday called on the international community to act immediately to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and lift the blockade, following an extraordinary session held at the level of permanent representatives. The meeting, requested by the State of Palestine, was chaired by Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Amjad Adaileh.
In a statement issued at the conclusion of the session, the Council condemned Israel’s closure of Gaza and its use of starvation as a weapon of war, describing such actions as war crimes and acts of genocide. It called on the international community to pressure Israel to end the blockade, halt the collective punishment of Palestinians, and open the crossings to allow the entry of humanitarian aid.
The Council emphasized the need to implement resolutions adopted at recent Arab and Islamic summits regarding the urgent delivery of humanitarian and relief convoys to Gaza and the activation of mechanisms for international accountability.
It also denounced attacks by Israeli forces on religious sites, including the recent targeting of the Latin Church in Gaza, and reaffirmed its rejection of any attempts to alter the historical status quo at the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron.
The Council warned of the dangers posed by Israeli plans to partition the city of Hebron and its impact on the city’s religious and cultural heritage. It called for an urgent UN fact-finding mission to be dispatched to Hebron and urged the activation of international justice mechanisms to hold Israel accountable for its violations.
