Amman, Aug 13 (Petra) — The Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) took part in the World Battery and Energy Storage Forum in Guangzhou, China, with a keynote paper presented by the commission’s Secretary-General, Mohammed Al-Taani.
Jordan won widespread acclaim as one of the best countries in the use of renewable energy to generate electricity, in terms of the percentage of citizens, electric vehicle numbers, energy storage systems, and green building codes, in addition to investing in renewable energy in charging EVs, According to a statement issued by the Commission on Wednesday.
The forum, which hosted experts from around the world, presented investment opportunities in the field of energy storage in the Arab world, especially since the Arab world is a world leader in traditional energy sources, such as oil and natural gas, within global supply chains. It also plays a pivotal role as a link in the smart grid for renewable energy that connects continents.
The statement said Jordan’s energy storage capacity increased from 175 gigawatt hours to 230 gigawatts, in light of the rapid development of the global battery storage and electric vehicle industries, the statement said.
That led to a significant decline in the construction of traditional fuel stations, a shift toward green electric transport, and a growing reliance on renewable energy and green hydrogen, while continuing to use traditional sources in light and heavy industrial sectors, it added.
It said the transition to the Fifth Industrial Revolution requires doubling global demand for electricity, as deserts are a huge investment opportunity for establishing solar energy farms that supply large data collection centers around the world.
Participants in the forum said resolving geopolitical situations is essential to accelerating the energy transition, which is currently progressing slowly and negatively impacting global economic recovery.
