Awareness Campaign in Jurf al-Darawish Promotes Water Loss Management

Jurf al-Darawish, Oct. 1 (Petra) – The Ministry of Water and Irrigation/Water Authority of Jordan, in cooperation with the Aqaba Water Company and the Tafilah Governorate Water Contract Management, organized a three-day awareness program in Jurf al-Darawish aimed at strengthening water loss management practices and promoting efficient use of water resources.

The campaign, held in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), included lectures, household visits, and field tours across several neighborhoods under the “Door-to-Door” initiative. The program aimed to engage with residents directly, highlight the objectives of the employee competency-building project, and encourage active participation in reducing non-revenue water (NRW) in the southern governorates.

Rabie Amayreh, Director of the Tafilah Water Contract Management, underlined that the Aqaba Water Company, with JICA’s support, is intensifying efforts to raise public awareness of water loss reduction as part of broader national strategies.

He noted that Jurf al-Darawish was selected as a field training site to launch the National Water Loss Management (NRW) training program this month, with the aim of enhancing technical skills and operational efficiency in NRW management.

During the tours, experts from JICA, the Aqaba Water Company, and the Tafilah Water Contract Administration detailed mechanisms to curb water loss, ensure equitable distribution, and address leaks or technical malfunctions promptly. They also stressed the importance of rationalizing consumption and fostering community cooperation to safeguard water resources.
