Brazilian President: No peace without accountability

Amman, September 23 (Petra) – Brazilian President Luiz In?cio Lula da Silva said Tuesday that peace cannot be realised without accountability, declaring that “nothing justifies the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.”

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, President Lula warned that the authority of the UN is at risk and the founding values of the organisation are facing unprecedented threats.

He criticised the rise of unilateral interventions as a defining feature of today’s international politics.

Lula highlighted the devastating toll of the conflict in Gaza, saying that tens of thousands of women and children have been buried, along with international law itself.

He said that the Palestinian people are at risk of disappearing and asserted that their survival depends on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
