Amman, January 8 (Petra) – The Acting Director General of the Jordan Customs Department, Brigadier General Ahmed Akalik, underscored the department’s commitment to collaborating with the industrial sector and streamlining its operations, recognizing the sector’s vital role in creating jobs and supporting Jordan’s national economy.
Speaking at a meeting organized by the Amman Chamber of Industry, Akalik announced the launch of a pilot project for the National Export Center, specifically tailored to the industrial sector. The center, set to begin operations next Sunday, is equipped with the necessary infrastructure and trained personnel.
Akalik explained that the center will offer 24/7 export services aimed at cutting costs and expediting customs processes. The electronic system will eliminate the need for physical goods inspection by enabling the electronic issuance and transfer of customs declarations to border crossings. Should any additional customs procedures be required, they will be finalized at the export crossing itself.
The streamlined process is expected to significantly reduce inspection rates for exported goods and shorten transaction completion times by five to six days. Additionally, incoming goods will be cleared en route to the Kingdom, minimizing delays.
The President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Fathi Jaghbir, commended the advancements made by the Jordan Customs Department in digitizing and simplifying its processes.
He highlighted the need to support the national industrial sector by instituting reciprocal measures against countries that impose customs or administrative barriers on Jordanian exports, praising the Customs Department’s cooperative approach in addressing challenges faced by the industrial sector.
The meeting addressed several pressing issues, including methods for assessing imported products, fees on imported raw materials, and procedures for importing industrial product samples following participation in international exhibitions.
