Amman, January 7 (Petra) – Minister of Education and Chairman of the Jordan National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, Azmi Muhafza, said that education serves as a transformative force for achieving social and economic progress.
He emphasized that the pursuit of the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4) ensuring inclusive, equitable, and quality education represents not only a responsibility towards current generations but an investment in the future of the Arab world.
Speaking at the 14th ALECSO Conference of Arab Ministers of Education in Doha, themed “Inclusive Education and Empowering Teachers: A Strategic Vision for Education in the Arab World,” Muhafza reiterated Jordan’s commitment to SDG 4. He highlighted the country’s focus on addressing core issues essential to reshaping the future of education in the region.
“Jordan believes that digital education and technological innovation are pivotal to achieving comprehensive and sustainable education,” Muhafza said, referencing the ministry’s “Darsak” platform. This digital tool ensures the equitable distribution of educational resources while maintaining continuity in students’ learning. He also highlighted the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into educational systems to customize learning experiences, which improves outcomes and bridges gaps in education.
Underscoring the central role of teachers in the education system, Muhafza detailed the ministry’s initiatives to train over 80% of its educators in educational and technological competencies within the next five years.
Programs like “Ed Tech” enhance teachers’ use of technology in classrooms, fostering more dynamic teacher-student interactions. Furthermore, the ministry has rolled out specialized training to help teachers develop students’ critical and creative thinking skills, equipping future generations to face emerging global challenges.
Muhafza also emphasized inclusive education as a cornerstone of the ministry’s vision, stressing the importance of creating adaptable learning environments and curricula that cater to diverse student needs, including those with disabilities. The Doha conference, he said, provides a crucial platform for dialogue and collaboration among Arab nations to develop actionable plans for achieving high-quality, inclusive education.
The minister concluded by affirming Jordan’s commitment to fostering innovative educational practices and supporting teachers’ roles in empowering students to become agents of change in an evolving world.
