Amman, Sept. 27 (Petra) – Finance Minister Abdelhakim Shibli on Saturday visited the Aqaba Customs Center to review operations at the clearance units and inspection yards as part of ongoing field follow-up aimed at improving the customs environment and service quality.
During the tour, Shibli underlined the importance of streamlining procedures and expediting customs clearance, noting this plays a central role in reducing cargo release times, lowering costs for importers and exporters, boosting trade flows, and strengthening economic competitiveness.
He emphasized the need to foster a spirit of partnership and responsibility among all parties involved in customs processes to ensure effective coordination and achieve the highest levels of efficiency and transparency.
Shibli also addressed concerns raised by some members of parliament on behalf of truck drivers about the use of X-ray scanners for cargo inspection.
He stressed that all scanners in Aqaba and at customs centers nationwide comply with the highest international safety standards and pose no risk to drivers or customs staff. He added that the devices are licensed by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission and operate under an advanced radiation monitoring system that ensures strict oversight of exposure levels and maintains maximum safety.
