
Baghdad, May 14 (Petra) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi held talks in Baghdad on Wednesday, with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein, and Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriate Affairs Badr Abdel Aty.
The meeting took place under the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq, on the sidelines of the preparatory meeting of Arab foreign ministers ahead of the 34th Arab League Summit.
The ministers emphasized the importance of strengthening the trilateral partnership between their countries, based on the commitment of the three nations’ leaders to deepen cooperation and enhance coordination across political, economic, trade, industrial, and security fields, to achieve greater prosperity for their peoples.
They reviewed existing areas of cooperation and stressed the need to activate agreed initiatives and ensure the implementation of previous commitments.
The ministers also discussed regional developments, foremost among them the Palestinian issue, and called for an immediate halt to the Israeli aggression on Gaza, the establishment of a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, and the opening of crossings to allow urgent humanitarian aid into the besieged strip, which is facing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
They agreed to maintain communication and coordination to follow up on proposed projects and inject new momentum into future steps, especially in light of the economic challenges facing the three countries.
