Minister Holds Phone Calls with Palestinian Counterpart, Arab League

Muscat,
22 Jan 2026 (ONA) — Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, held
separate telephone calls today with Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, Minister of
Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine, and Ahmed Aboul
Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League.

During
the call with his Palestinian counterpart, the Minister discussed various
developments and current events related to the Palestinian cause, as well as
regional and international efforts aimed at stabilizing the ceasefire in the
Gaza Strip.

The
Foreign Minister reaffirmed the Sultanate of Oman’s firm and supportive stance
for the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is their right
to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state, in
accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions, most recently
Resolution No. 2803. Both sides emphasized the importance of the full and
effective participation of the Palestinian side in the efforts exerted in this
context.

In
his conversation with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, the Minister
addressed the overall developments and current events on the regional stage, in
light of the rapid challenges and their implications for security and
stability.

The
Foreign Minister underscored the significance Oman attaches to the pivotal role
of the Arab League in efforts to contain tensions and promote paths toward
de-escalation and political solutions. Both parties stressed the necessity of
intensifying Arab-Arab consultation and coordination to contribute to
safeguarding shared Arab security, the supreme interests of the region’s
peoples, and regional stability.

Furthermore,
the two sides discussed updates regarding the Palestinian cause and Arab and
international efforts to stop the escalation and stabilize the ceasefire in the
Gaza Strip. They reiterated the importance of supporting the political track
and enabling the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights,
primarily the right to self-determination, in accordance with resolutions of
international legitimacy.
