Amman, January 22 (Petra) -Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced 236 projects were included in the budget of the Kingdom’s provincial councils for the current year, which are set to be “gradually” tendered with completion of the relevant studies and procedures, its data showed.
In a statement Wednesday, the ministry said it “successfully” facilitated procedures for issuing tenders for the Kingdom’s governorate councils, which are floated at the beginning of the year and ahead of the constitutional procedures for approving the Draft General Budget Law.
The ministry said delay in tendering provincial projects triggered a delay in implementation ahead of the end of the fiscal year, which thus returns allocations to the Treasury, a step that bears adverse financial and legal complications on the councils’ operations.
Recently, Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan agreed to push tenders within the capital budget of the Kingdom’s provincial councils for the current year to ensure early issuance without delays.
Minister of Public Works and Housing, Maher Abuelsamen, had directed all the ministry’s directorates to complete the projects’ studies as of the end of last year to commence the tendering process, start implementation during the current year, and pay contractors’ due amounts as scheduled.
According to the ministry’s figures, 34 tenders in the current year’s budget benefit Irbid Public Works Directorate, 6 others go for northern district of Ramtha, 28 for Ajloun, and 18 for Jerash, respectively.
Meanwhile, 6 tenders serve Mafraq, 11 others are planned for Amman, , 33 for Balqa , 13 for Zarqa, 24 for Madaba, 20 for Karak, 14 for Tafilah, 16 for Ma’an, 4 for southern district of Petra and 9 for port city of Aqaba.
