
Amman, August 5 (Petra) – The Higher Education Council (HEC) on Tuesday held its session, headed by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Azmi Mahafzeh to discuss several decisions to renew appoinment of several heads of public Jordanian universities.
Upon a recommendation, the council decided to renew appointment of University of Jordan President, Dr. Nazir Obeidat, for a 4-year period, effective August 9, 2025.
The council also decided to extend appointment of Dr. Khaled Salem as President of Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), effective from the same date.
The council renewed appointment of Dr. Ala’aldeen Halhouli as President of the German Jordanian University (GJU) for a 4-year term, effective August 23, 2025.
Meanwhile, the council relieved Dr. Bassam Mahasneh of his position as President of Tafila Technical University, effective from the date of the decision.
In the same context, the council turned down appointment renewal of Dr. Islam Massad as President of Yarmouk University.
The council announced the opening nominations to fill the positions of president of both Yarmouk University and Tafila Technical University.
The council set the application period from Sunday, August 10, 2025, through Thursday, August 14, 2025.
The council said vacancies will be announced on the electronic link on the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research website.
On eligibility requirements, the council noted the applicant must be a Jordanian citizen and hold the rank of professor as a faculty member, as well as a HEC non-member.
The council indicated that the presidents’s selection of the two public universities will be made in accordance with the approved plan in place for this purpose.
