Iran’s President Affirms Policy of
Strengthening Regional Relations and Cooperation

Muscat, 28 May (ONA) — President
Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressed his profound
gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for his role in backing peace
efforts in the region and his valuable mediation between Iran and the United
States (US) to achieve a satisfactory and just agreement that garners mutual
respect and fulfills the aspirations of both sides.

In an exclusive interview with
Oman News Agency (ONA) and Oman TV, the Iranian President stated that the
bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of
Iran are long-standing and deeply rooted, with shared bonds between the two
nations. He described his meeting with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik as
“positive and constructive.”

The President emphasized that
his official visit to Oman explored areas of joint cooperation and the latest
developments in the region and the world, noting that his country’s policy is
built on establishing strong relations and cooperation with various neighbouring
states.

He added that the visit
included meetings between officials from both sides and the signing of several
agreements, memoranda, and executive programmes across various fields,
including health, renewable energy, economy, and trade. He affirmed both sides’
commitment to moving forward with implementing the agreed-upon measures on the
ground.

He noted that the Islamic
Republic of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman are at advanced stages of
consultation and coordination on political and economic levels regarding
numerous regional and international issues through joint meetings and
discussions. The two nations, the President said, share common and aligned
positions on issues critical to the region, foremost among them the Palestinian
cause. There is also coordination to overcome some challenges arising from
sanctions imposed on Tehran and to resolve them through air and maritime
cooperation, as well as augmenting trade volume between the two nations to over
$20 billion.

The Iranian President pointed
out that Oman will serve as a hub for the exchange and export of goods between
the two countries, extending to all nations in the region, Central Asia, and
from Oman to African states, fostering cooperation and partnership with
all.

Regarding reaching a fair
agreement in the nuclear talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the
United States, The Iranian President stressed that international laws are the
just and equitable conditions under which any country may conduct specialized
scientific research related to uranium enrichment and utilize nuclear energy
for peaceful purposes. He reaffirmed that his country does not seek nuclear
weapons in any form but rather aims to benefit from enrichment in medicine,
energy, and the economy.

The Iranian President called
on the international community to uphold its responsibilities in stopping the
genocide and massacres committed by the Israeli occupation army against
innocent civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip, which has endured nearly two
years of suffering.
