Irbid, Feb. 3 (Petra) – The value of certificates of origin issued by the Irbid Chamber of Industry in January 2024 reached $73.1 million, compared to $65.3 million for the same month in 2023, marking an increase of 12.1 percent.
According to the chamber’s report, the number of certificates of origin issued by the chamber last month amounted to 1,092, compared to 964 certificates for the same period last year.
The report indicated that the textiles and leather sector maintained its position as the top exporting sector with a value of $62.7 million, followed by the food, agricultural, and provisions sector with $4.69 million, and then the pharmaceutical and medical supplies sector with $2.36 million. The remaining exports were distributed across the chemical and cosmetics industries, engineering and electrical industries, plastic and rubber industries, construction industries, packaging, paper, cardboard, and office supplies industries, and mining industries.
The Al-Hassan Industrial Estate accounted for the majority of exports, exceeding 93 percent, followed by Cyber City with 6 percent of total exports.
Hani Abu Hassan, President of the Chamber, stated that the growth in the total value of certificates of origin issued by the Irbid Chamber of Industry in January reflects a net result of a decline in exports from the leather and textiles sector and a noticeable growth in exports from five industrial sectors: food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering, and plastics.
He added that the chamber’s exports under the Arab Agreement grew by 27.6 percent on a monthly basis for January, reaching approximately $6.9 million compared to $5.6 million in January of last year. He noted that the chamber’s exports under trade agreements accounted for 83.6 percent of total exports.
