Occupied Jerusalem, Jan 5 (Petra) — Jewish settlers, escorted by Israeli police, stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Haram Al Sharif in occupied Jerusalem on Sunday and performed prayers in the latest breach of the compound, one of Islam’s holiest shrines.
Dozens of settlers made their way into the mosque plaza from Al Magharibah Gate in the Walled Old City and performed “provocative Talmudic rituals” under the protection of the occupation police, according to a statement by the Islamic Waqf (endowments) in Jerusalem, the custodian of the holy compound.
Earlier, dozens of soldiers broke into the mosque and toured its courtyards.
Since the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and West Bank in October, 2023, the occupation authorities have tightened measures at the gates of the compound and entrances to the Old City.
