The ministers stressed the deep relations between the two countries and the continuation of work to cement relations, both bilaterally and within the framework of a tripartite cooperation mechanism with Cyprus, and through the European Union as well.

The talks also addressed the situation in Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and other regional issues and efforts to resolve regional crises and achieve security and stability in the region.

The ministers stressed the importance of consolidating the ceasefire in Gaza and the entry of immediate and sufficient humanitarian aid to all parts of the Strip.
In a joint press conference with Gerapetritis, who is visiting as part of a regional tour that included Qatar, Palestine and Israel, Safadi said he and his Greek counterpart held extensive talks, with a focus on joint efforts to bolster friendly relations and increase cooperation in a host of sectors and build on signed agreements.

He said they fully agreed to do more to enhance the “distinguished and strong cooperation” and increase cooperation in investment, economic and tourism fields, and other vital sectors.

Safadi said the talks addressed developments in the region, and that Jordan and Greece stressed the need to build on positive developments, especially the Gaza ceasefire, which should be permanent, and the access of aid to Gaza.

Safadi said he briefed the Greek minister on efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to fully deliver aid to Gaza, whether by land or by air, and the outcome of an Arab meeting in Cairo on Saturday, which stressed the keenness of participating Arab countries to consolidate the ceasefire, deliver aid, and move on towards a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

The message at the Cairo meeting, he said, was that the Arab world is ready to engage immediately, having presented thoughts in order to achieve a just peace in cooperation with partners in the international community, the United States and the European Union.

Safadi said the Arab foreign ministers at the Cairo meeting sent a letter to the US Secretary of State that they agreed to work with Washington to achieve a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution that meets the rights of the Palestinian people and brings security and stability for Israel, based on the two-state solution.

Safadi said he briefed the Greek minister on Jorda’s efforts to find a horizon for progress towards peace, pointing a visit that His Majesty the King will pay to Washington and his meeting with US President Donald Trump.

Safadi pointed Jordan’s solid relations and historical partnership with the United States and the friendship between His Majesty and President Trump.

He also said Jordan is continuing to work with Greece and European partners to achieve the common goal of regional peace and stability.

For his part, the Greek minister said Jordan and Greece have excellent relations, and there is a keenness to strengthen relations and joint cooperation, especially in economic, trade and tourism fields.
