Amman, Aug 4 (Petra) – The Jordan International Food Festival (JIFF) launched a relief campaign on Monday for the people of the Gaza Strip, in coordination with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO).
A five-truck convoy loaded with food and medical supplies, a contribution by participating companies, institutions and individuals as well as private sector representatives, kicked off from the festival’s square.
Total aid to Gaza through this initiative will be 300 tons of food, which will be transported in three batches over the festival’s duration, to ensure an uninterrupted flow of aid and meet the needs of “our brothers and sisters in the Strip,” campaign organizers said.
“Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, has never hesitated to stand by our brothers in Gaza and support their steadfastness in the face of the humanitarian and living challenges,” Jordan Tourism Board Director General Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat told Petra.
“It stems from Jordan’s firm and unwavering stance on the Palestinian cause, an ongoing commitment to delivering relief aid and a keenness on the access of relief aid and opening the doors for support through various channels,” he added.
Jordan continues to fulfill a humanitarian role with all its capabilities in a sustainable approach, using all available means as an expression of solidarity with the people of Gaza, he said.
For his part, JHCO spokesperson Anas Adwan, said the campaign is part of the social responsibility by the private sector that reflects the true values the Kingdom upholds in its humanitarian missions.
The campaign will continue in the coming days, allowing donations throughout the food festival’s duration and enabling greater participation by various sectors and communities, he said.
Festival Director Jihan Sahawneh said such campaigns are within the framework of its mission to support humanitarian and community initiatives, highlighting the festival’s role in empowering youth through entrepreneurial initiatives in the food and productive kitchen sector.
The festival embraces emerging projects and youth initiatives that highlight the diversity and richness of Jordanian cuisine, opening up broad prospects for marketing, production and entrepreneurship, she said.
Taking part in the festival are 165 Jordanian entrepreneurial projects, 76 women of local communities, 180 restaurants, and 20 food factories. It supports 38 local communities across the Kingdom through productive kitchens, handicrafts, and experiences led by men and women from local communities.
The Jordan Tourism Board has announced that ticket proceeds of the festival, which will be held in Amman August 6-11, will go to the children of Gaza.
