Amman, Jan. 30 (Petra) -Civil Aviation Regulatory commission (CARC) and Iraq Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) signed an updated air services agreement in Baghdad on Thursday, paving the way for a “new” phase of joint cooperation in the air transport field.
The agreement was signed by CARC Chairman, Captain Haitham Misto, and Iraqi Minister of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities, and ICAA Head, Benkin Rikani.
According to a CARC statement, the agreement replaces the older version signed on November 4, 1953 by the Jordanian and Iraqi governments for operation of regular air routes in their territories and beyond.
On its goals, the agreement regulates joint air transport to keep pace with developments and changes that have occurred in the air transport and civil aviation areas, and aligns with the two countries’ air transport policies under their national air transport strategies.
The agreement will allow both countries’ airlines to “easily” enter the markets with advantages related to tariffs and code-sharing operations and steps to enhance “fair” competition.
The agreement also features application of multiple policies of the International Civil Aviation Organization in the air transport field.
The statement added that the agreement comes to enhance the bilateral “distinguished” relations in various fields, including the civil aviation and air transport sector.
Additionally, an executive memorandum was signed for operational arrangements for air services on the specified routes on reciprocal bases, mainly measures to add new airline routes, especially Aqaba flights to any point in Iraq and Amman-Kirkuk destination and increase the number of passenger flights on Amman-Baghdad and Amman-Erbil routes.
The number of joint air cargo flights has also been increased to address the increase in the number of passengers and development of air traffic, as the two sides included regulatory requirements for code-sharing operations arrangements.
