Jordan making ‘steady’ progress to achieve digital transformation-Smeirat

Amman, Feb. 23 (Petra) – Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smeirat, Sunday, inaugurated the second edition of the Digital Cooperation and Development Forum 2025.

Hosted by Jordan, the event is held in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Arab League, with the participation of a number of ministers and senior Arab and foreign figures.

According to a ministry statement, Smeirat stressed the importance of the forum as a “regional” platform for enhancing digital cooperation and “sustainable” development.

Jordan, he noted, is making “steady” progress to achieve “comprehensive” digital transformation and enhance the digital economy, in line with the Arab Digital Agenda 2023-2033.

Smeirat said Jordan has made “remarkable” steps in developing its digital infrastructure, enhancing innovation and entrepreneurship environment and empowering the digital community.

The minister added that the Kingdom looks forward to strengthening partnerships that drive digital development in the region.

Additionally, he pointed to the Kingdom’s “close” partnership with ESCWA and the Arab League in developing digital policies.

Smeirat stated the forum is an opportunity to exchange “successful” expertise, and enhance pan-Arab integration in the fields of cybersecurity, innovation, digital transformation and digital government.

Meanwhile, the Arab League’s Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, noted the forum represents a “pivotal” venue for enhancing pan-Arab digital cooperation, pointing to the need for joint work to keep pace with technological developments and enhance sustainable development.

The two-day event aims to discuss ways to enhance digital transformation in the Arab region, support innovation, develop the digital economy, and enhance partnerships between the public and private sectors, the statement pointed out.

The forum also addresses the “key” challenges and opportunities related to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital government.
