
Amman, Sep. 21 (Petra) – MP Awni Zoubi, Rapporteur of the International Peace and Security Committee at the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, discussed on Sunday with Russian Ambassador to Jordan Gleb Desyatnikov relations and ways to expand cooperation.
Zoubi said that the committee’s October conference in Geneva, titled “The Role of Parliaments in Establishing Strong Mechanisms for Post-Conflict Management and Rebuilding a Comprehensive and Just Peace,” will bring together parliamentary experts and specialists to develop recommendations that strengthen parliaments’ role in international peace.
He stressed that post-conflict management is a key opportunity to build strong institutions that prevent renewed violence and lay the foundation for lasting peace, adding that parliaments play a central role as legislative and oversight bodies representing the people and guiding reconciliation processes.
For his part, the Russian ambassador expressed pride in the relations between Jordan and Russia, highlighting Moscow’s keenness to develop cooperation and open new horizons. He emphasized the strong ties between His Majesty King Abdullah II and President Vladimir Putin, noting the two countries’ close coordination on regional and international issues and praising Jordan’s pivotal role in promoting peace and stability.
