Jordan to chair 4th General Assembly of Digital Cooperation Organisation

Amman, February 12 (Petra) — The Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) will convene its fourth General Assembly on February 19 at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre at the Dead Sea.

Jordan will chair the event which will be attended by officials and delegations from member states, along with representatives from invited countries, international organisations, observers and experts in the digital economy.

In a statement, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship said Wednesday that it had highlighted that the assembly’s discussions will focus on enhancing digital cooperation, advancing strategies for comprehensive digital transformation and addressing key issues aimed at accelerating the growth of the digital economy.

The sessions will explore ways to support technological innovation and overcome challenges affecting sustainable growth in the digital world.

Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and Chair of the DCO Council Sami Smeirat said the event underscores Jordan’s commitment to fostering digital cooperation and creating sustainable solutions to drive digital growth.

He noted that the General Assembly will serve as an essential platform to discuss cooperation in the digital sector, accelerate economic growth and support innovation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Hosting the DCO General Assembly demonstrates Jordan’s leadership role in technology and the digital economy at the regional level,” Smeirat said. “It also reflects our commitment to enhancing international collaboration and advancing the digital economy.”

The Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organisation, Dima Yahya, stated that the organisation recognises international cooperation’s crucial role in realising its mission of creating a prosperous digital future for all.

She emphasised that the fourth General Assembly will serve as an ideal forum for multilateral dialogue, allowing stakeholders to chart a clear roadmap for the coming year and develop strategies to address challenges arising from rapidly advancing technologies, particularly in the age of artificial intelligence.

Yahya warned that without proactive efforts, AI could exacerbate the global digital divide rather than contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly, the DCO will hold a ceremony to present the Digital Prosperity Awards, which honour exceptional digital contributions that foster development, prosperity, and sustainable growth.

The organisation will launch the International Forum on Digital Cooperation, an annual gathering of global leaders, innovators, policymakers and changemakers focused on advancing the Global Digital Compact and accelerating the growth of the global digital economy.

The Digital Cooperation Organisation is an international multilateral entity dedicated to enabling digital prosperity for all by fostering inclusive and sustainable growth within the global digital economy.
