Jordan, Türkiye, Syria hold trilateral talks to support Syrian reconstruction, regional stability, 2nd add

“Jordan is actively working to end the aggression and reach a permanent ceasefire,” he said. He described the release of American citizen Edan Alexander as a step that should lead to a comprehensive agreement resulting in a lasting ceasefire, lifting of the siege on Gaza, and the entry of adequate humanitarian aid paving the way for a broader peace process.

Safadi emphasized that true peace and stability can only be achieved when Palestinians secure their right to an independent, sovereign state on their national soil, living side by side with Israel, in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.

“People in Gaza are dying not only from Israeli bullets but also from starvation and thirst and from lack of medical services. This is an inhumane situation that the world must urgently end.”

In response to a question, Safadi said the situation in Gaza is a full-fledged humanitarian catastrophe, describing it as not only a graveyard for children but also a graveyard for international law and human values.

He said, “There is no justification for depriving 2.3 million Palestinians of food, water, and medicine. Yet Israel continues its aggression and its blockade of aid to Gaza. No humanitarian aid has entered Gaza since March 2. As a result, children are dying of hunger, hospitals have ceased to function, and basic needs are unavailable.”

Safadi said Jordan remains committed to doing everything possible to change this dire reality. He said His Majesty King Abdullah is leading ongoing efforts, in coordination with regional and international partners, to stop the war and secure a lasting ceasefire and humanitarian access.

He noted Jordan’s extensive aid efforts prior to the blockade, including airdrops the second largest operation of its kind since Berlin and land shipments.

Safadi said the international community’s silence in the face of Israel’s aid blockade is neither rational nor acceptable.

He added that instead of engaging with Arab proposals for a just and lasting peace that guarantees Palestinian rights and Israeli security, Israel continues its aggression.

“This aggression is evident not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank, Syria, and Lebanon.”
He said Israel is persisting with unilateral, illegitimate actions in the West Bank that destroy prospects for peace and risk igniting further conflict.

He added that Israel is refusing to uphold the ceasefire with Lebanon and continues to occupy border areas it had previously committed to vacate under the ceasefire agreement.
