Amman, May 11 (Petra) – The Jordan Exporters and Producers Association for Fruit and Vegetables (JEPA) confirmed that lemons will be available in the local market “within days.”
During his meeting on Sunday with JEPA Chairman, Mazen Hamarneh, Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat said lemon import licenses are currently available, adding that quantities will “soon meet local market needs.”
According to the ministry’s statement, Hneifat discussed the governance mechanisms to “institutionalize” the national agricultural committee tasked to oversee import and export operations.
The minister noted the need to secure agricultural products to consumers at the “appropriate” time and quantity at “affordable” prices, based on mechanisms that ensure protection of local products and balance quantities in the markets.
Meanwhile, Hamarneh discussed the key issues to secure supplementary import of some crops, in accordance with the agricultural plans, climate change, and market studies under surveys conducted in cooperation with the ministry.
