Amman, January 11 (Petra) – Menzies Aviation, a leading global ground-handling provider, has officially opened a state-of-the-art air cargo center at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in partnership with the Ministry of Investment.
This milestone positions Jordan as a prominent regional air cargo hub, establishing a second cargo outlet at the QAIA to double its capacity and enhance operational efficiency. The center commenced operations by handling a National Airlines B747-400F flight, transporting approximately 100 tons of cargo.
Spanning 8,000 square meters, the facility features cutting-edge automated handling systems and advanced technologies to manage diverse cargo types, including perishables such as pharmaceuticals, vegetables, and fruits. It incorporates advanced security equipment to ensure operational safety and prevent smuggling, bolstering trust in Menzies Aviation’s services. Key innovations include automated elevated transport vehicles (ETVs) and sophisticated cargo handling systems.
The project has generated approximately 400 jobs in the air cargo sector, with plans to create additional employment opportunities during its next phase.
Dominic Coleman, CEO of Menzies Aviation (Jordan), emphasized the company’s confidence in Jordan as a strategic location for air cargo operations.
He stated, “This partnership with the Ministry of Investment reflects our commitment to providing high-quality logistics services and solidifies the QAIA’s role as a key air cargo hub in the Middle East.”
Coleman also highlighted aspirations to expand the project in collaboration with the government’s economic team, aiming for a positive impact on Jordan’s economic sector.
Menzies Aviation, established in 1833 in Edinburgh, Scotland, operates at more than 300 airports worldwide, providing ground handling, air cargo, and catering services.
