Amman, Sep.16 (Petra) –Ministry of Water and Irrigation and Jordan Water Authority (JWA), in cooperation with relevant authorities, detected attacks on main water lines in Ain al-Basha district.
The fixtures illegally supplied farms, nurseries, and homes at the expense of citizens’ allocated drinking water quotas.
In a statement on Tuesday, the JWA said its teams detected the attacks during their inspection tours and found out that farms and nurseries were illegally siphoning off water from several mains.
The fixtures were disconnected and the attacks were dismantled. The incident will be referred to judicial authorities for further investigation, the statement pointed out.
On its policy, the JWA reiterated zero tolerance in fulfilling its duty towards citizens and protecting their water rights, as these attacks constitute a “significant” challenge facing the Kingdom’s water sector.
The JWA also confirmed the crackdown will continue in several areas of the Kingdom to “firmly tighten control” over all water sources.
