OQ,
DHL Partner to Introduce Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Cargo Shipments
Muscat,
19 May (ONA) — As part of its continued commitment to sustainability and
carbon reduction, OQ has partnered with DHL Express by joining the GoGreen Plus
programme. Through this collaboration, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) will be
used for DHL’s cargo shipments entering and leaving Oman; a meaningful step
towards low-carbon logistics.
This
initiative aligns with OQ’s long-term strategy to achieve carbon neutrality. Sustainable
Aviation Fuel is produced from renewable resources, including used cooking oil
and sugarcane, and can reduce carbon emissions by up to 30 percent compared to
conventional jet fuel.
By
joining GoGreen Plus, OQ reaffirms its role as a future-focused energy company
that places sustainability at the core of its operations. The programme has
recently received a sustainability award, recognizing its environmental value
and role in advancing greener supply chain solutions.
The
partnership forms part of OQ’s wider sustainability agenda. OQ’s work spans a
comprehensive decarburization roadmap, adoption of clean energy, modernization
of logistics systems, and investment in circular economy projects.
In
2024, OQ also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a global alliance to
explore the potential for producing sustainable fuels for land and air
transport in Oman. The study aims to assess commercial viability and the
possibility of establishing production facilities for electric and SAF using
hydrogen and carbon dioxide.
