
Our National Team to Host Jordan in Highly Anticipated World Cup Qualifier TomorrowMuscat, 4 Jun (ONA) —- Our national football team will host Jordan tomorrow (Thursday), in a crucial match as part of the ninth round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The game will kick off at 8:00 pm at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, Muscat Governorate.The team enters the match aiming for victory and securing three points to strengthen its chances of competing for one of the direct qualification spots to the World Cup, which will be held in the United States and Mexico.Currently, Oman Football Team hold fourth place in Group 2 with 10 points from eight matches, trailing behind Jordan, who sit in second place with 13 points. South Korea leads the group with 16 points, while Iraq is third with 12 points. Palestine and Kuwait occupy the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.In today’s press conference, Rasheed Jaber, head coach of our national team, stated: “The match against Jordan will not be easy, but we are seeking a positive result, and all players are ready for the challenge.”He added: “Small details will determine the result of the match, along with the players’ efforts on the pitch. The Jordanian team has a strong and dangerous attacking line.”The Omani team concluded its preparations with a domestic training camp, which included two friendly victories over Niger (4-1) and Lebanon (1-0) under the guidance of the national technical staff which is counting on the players’ fighting spirit, their rising form, and the expected strong support from the fans in the stands.The two teams have faced each other nine times in continental competitions, with five encounters in World Cup qualifiers and four in Asian Cup qualifiers. In their last five fixtures, Jordan has won three times, including a 4-0 victory over Oman in the first leg of these qualifiers, while the other two matches ended in draws.The match will be officiated by a Saudi refereeing team, led by on-field referee Khalid Al-Turais, assisted by Hisham Al-Rifai and Abdulrahim Al-Shammari, with Faisal Al-Harbi as the fourth official.
