Parliamentary and professional bodies condemn killing of Gaza journalists

Amman, Aug 11 (Petra) The National Guidance, Media and Culture Parliamentary Committee, along with the Irada and Islamic National parliamentary blocs, strongly condemned the horrific crime committed by the Israeli occupation against journalists Anas Al-Sharif and Muhammad Qreiqa. They called for urgent international action to hold the perpetrators accountable and protect journalists.

The committees described targeting journalists as a systematic policy by the occupation aimed at concealing its crimes. It said this act comes as a clear prelude to the storming and invasion of Gaza and the destruction of what remains, erasing the living evidence of the ethnic cleansing and genocide committed against the Palestinian people.

The committee held the occupation fully responsible and stressed that impunity encourages it to continue killing civilians and journalists. It urged the international community, the UN Security Council, and the International Criminal Court to turn this crime into an international prosecution case and try the occupation leaders as war criminals.

It called on Arab and international media and journalists’ unions to break the silence, form an international media front to confront the Israeli falsified narrative, and report the truth from the field without fear or compromise.

The parliamentary bloc added that the targeting of journalists reflects the occupation’s insistence on continuing its systematic killing and brutal silencing policy to hide its crimes against unarmed civilians and distort facts.

They urged the international community, the UN, and human rights organizations to take urgent and decisive steps to stop these crimes, hold perpetrators accountable, ensure full protection for journalists and media institutions, and protect the Palestinian people from daily killings.

Separately, the Jordanian Agricultural Engineers Association condemned the assassination of the journalists in Gaza, describing it as another addition to the occupation’s record of killing, destruction, and starvation, reflecting its failure and defeat in its aggression against the Gaza Strip.

The association affirmed that targeting journalists who convey the truth and expose occupation crimes will not silence the voice of justice.
