Amman, Sept. 24 (Petra) – Participants in a foundational media course for non-commissioned officers, organized by the Military Media Training Institute, visited Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Wednesday to learn about its role in the national media sector.
Petra is a credible source of news with high professional standards and a service-oriented role, said Petra Director General Fairooz Mubaideen.
She highlighted the agency’s digitization strategy, including a newly-established digital media directorate, use of multimedia, including infographic video, and recruitment of young journalists.
The national news agency, she said, is a reliable news source for local media outlets, she said, stressing responsibility, accuracy and the public’s and officials’ trust in its product, as it strategically aims to serve the country and its causes, and not compete for profit or viewership.
Petra prioritizes training through a center established in 2005 having the trust of national institutions, newspapers, media outlets, universities, and civil society organizations, Director of News Jamil Barmawi said.
It also hosts the Federation of Arab News Agencies’ (FANA) Media Training Center in support of the federation that promotes best professional practices, he added.
