Amman, September 30 (Petra) – The Board of Trustees of the West Asian Football Federation Foundation for Development (WAFF) on Tuesday held a coordination meeting with King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to discuss mechanisms for expanding cooperation and the scope of humanitarian and development work.
Held in Amman on the sidelines of the WAFF’s annual ceremony and Board of Trustees meeting, HRH Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, and Aqeel Ghamdi, KSrelief Assistant Supervisor General attended the discussions.
Also present were Nazeeh Al Nasser, President of the Social Responsibility Committee at the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, and Adnan Darjal, Board Member. The meeting reviewed programs and initiatives implemented by both the WAFF and KSrelief to support crisis-affected communities.
Talking at the meeting, Ghamdi highlighted the Center’s relief, medical, and educational efforts in several countries, emphasizing the importance of aligning these efforts with the Foundation to positively impact communities, particularly those facing increasing humanitarian challenges.
In turn, Prince Ali praised KSrelief’s humanitarian and development contributions across West Asia, while Ghamdi expressed appreciation for the Foundation’s pioneering programs despite its relative infancy.
The two sides discussed leveraging football in humanitarian work under joint projects targeting youth, building their capacities, and enhancing their societal role.
According to a WAFF statement, both sides agreed to continue the partnership and develop a map of future projects, including sports, educational, and health initiatives, to be implemented with local authorities in target countries.
The meeting reflects the WAFF’s “commitment to strategic” partnerships and to using sport as a tool for sustainable development.
Discussions also highlighted KSrelief’s efforts to support vulnerable groups by implementing sports programs, mainly those similar held in Zaatari refugee camp, including leagues for various categories and training courses for men and women, as well as refereeing programs.
