Amman, Aug. 11 (Petra) – The Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Monday launched a national initiative, Suqya Rahmeh or “Water of Mercy,” to provide aid to citizens, raise preventative awareness, and distribute water and masks across the Kingdom, in response to prevailing heat wave and dusty weather conditions.
The initiative, implemented in cooperation with the Community Police, brings together various PSD leaderships, directorates, and departments, and targets citizens in public areas, public transport workers, workshop owners, craftspeople, and others whose occupations involve significant physical effort or direct exposure to heat and dust.
Field teams from the Traffic Department, Police, Gendarmerie, and Civil Defense distributed water and masks, while providing guidance on preventative measures to safeguard public health. Relevant PSD units also heightened operational readiness in light of the current weather.
The Directorate urged the public to follow its published guidelines, particularly individuals with respiratory illnesses such as asthma, advising them to keep necessary medications readily available, avoid leaving children in vehicles, and limit outdoor activities during peak heat and dusty conditions. It further called on citizens to refrain from traveling in heavily affected areas except when necessary and to contact the unified emergency number (911) when assistance is needed.
