Amman, August 14 (Petra) – Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks on the so-called “Greater Israel” reflect his belief in the extremism and hatred ideology, which poses a threat to international peace and security, Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs (RCJA), Abdullah Kanaan, said.
In a statement to “Petra,” he noted Jordan, under the King’s leadership, the historical custodian over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites, “will remain steadfast and defend rights of the Palestinian people on their land.”
Kanaan added that these Israeli comments further confirm Netanyahu government’s allegiance to inherited schemes and myths that flout principles of diplomacy, international law, and the UN Charter and represent an Israeli official deep-rooted culture of escalation that persisted for decades.
These positions come amid domestic and international criticism of Netanyahu government, especially after aggression on Gaza and his attempts to divert attention from the annexation policy, he pointed out.
In this context, he referrd to Israeli belligerent policies in West Bank and Jerusalem, sabotage of the two-state solution, and Netanyahu’s efforts to gain support of settlers and extremists.
Kanaan noted “true” stability and peace in the region and the world begin with ending the Israeli occupation and halting the culture of Israeli violations, including incursions, confiscations, displacement, and starvation in Gaza.
On the solution to this stalemate, he urged the international community to “immediately” halt the Israeli war of extermination and hold the occupation accountable to international law.
