Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs SG hails Jordan’s stances under Hashemite leadership

Amman, Feb. 12 (Petra) – Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs, Abdullah Kanaan, emphasized that Jordan, under its Hashemite leadership and steadfast people, has always been and will remain a strong pillar and national supporter of Arab causes, with the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem at the forefront.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kanaan noted that throughout history, Jordan has consistently been at the forefront in defending Arab issues. He highlighted the sacrifices made by the Jordanian people, particularly the Hashemite leadership and the Jordan Armed Forces, whose martyrs have shed blood on the soil of Palestine and Jerusalem. Jordan’s humanitarian and diplomatic efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, remain a testament to its unwavering commitment to the Arab cause.

He pointed out that the King’s recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as his discussions with political and economic leaders in the U.S. and Europe, reaffirm Jordan’s steadfast stance based on three key principles: protecting Jordan’s national and regional interests, defending the Palestinian cause especially Jerusalem and upholding Arab unity and security.

Kanaan underscored the King’s firm declarations made at the White House, including his categorical rejection of forced displacement from Gaza and his insistence that the region’s priority should be Gaza’s reconstruction without displacing its residents. The King also reaffirmed that a just peace must be based on a two-state solution. These statements, Kanaan said, serve as a direct response to those seeking to undermine Arab unity.

He stressed that Jordan’s Hashemite leadership enjoys international credibility due to His Majesty the King’s wisdom and diplomacy, which prioritize national interests, Palestinian rights, and humanitarian relief especially in Gaza. He also highlighted Jordan’s custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites, warning of increasing Israeli efforts to alter the city’s identity. The international community, he urged, must remain vigilant against these violations.

Kanaan affirmed that the Jordanian people and institutions fully support the King’s leadership, believing that Jordan’s strength is essential to Arab and Islamic unity in facing regional challenges. He reiterated that Jordan, under Hashemite custodianship, will continue to support Palestinians in all cities, including Jerusalem and Gaza, regardless of the cost. He called on world leaders to pressure Israel into respecting international law, emphasizing that peace and stability cannot be achieved through aggression, forced displacement, and illegal policies.
