Senate President commends Crown Prince’s announcement to reinstate conscription

Amman, August 17 (Petra) – Senate President Faisal Fayez lauded the announcement by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to reinstate the national service programme.

Fayez expressed the Senate’s gratitude for the directives and efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Crown Prince in preparing “this vital” national initiative, which is scheduled to commence early next year as planned.

Fayez affirmed that the Senate would prioritise the swift approval of the draft amendments to the National Service and Reserve Service Law once Parliament convenes for its second regular session, following the government’s submission and the House of Representatives’ approval.

He noted that reactivating conscription would play a “crucial” role in reinforcing national identity and deepening youth’s connection to their homeland.

He explained that conscription would contribute to preparing young Jordanians to serve and defend the nation amid evolving regional challenges.

“Our youth will learn the values of honour and courage directly from the brave and honourable members of our armed forces, developing essential skills, resilience and the ability to face hardships,” Fayez stated.

He added, “National service cultivates discipline, responsibility and teamwork among young people, fostering a spirit of volunteerism. It equips them with new skills, preparing them to serve and protect the nation under all circumstances.”
