Ten-Man Brentford Stun Villa to
Derail Title Charge
London, 2 Feb 2026 (ONA) — A
remarkable victory for ten-man Brentford at Aston Villa delivered a significant
blow to the home side’s English Premier League (EPL) title aspirations.
The decisive moment came in the 65th
minute when substitute Dango Ouattara fired home a superb strike, stunning
Villa Park just minutes after Brentford had been reduced to ten men. Kevin
Schade was dismissed for a reckless challenge, driving his studs into the
midriff of Villa’s Matty Cash.
Villa, who saw a headed effort from
the returning Tammy Abraham ruled out for offside, were unable to break down a
resolute Brentford defence despite their numerical advantage. The result marks
the first time in two years that Unai Emery’s side have suffered back-to-back
league defeats at home.
The defeat leaves Villa third in the
table, now seven points behind leaders Arsenal. Brentford, under manager Keith
Andrews, climb to seventh and remain firmly in the European conversation,
sitting just four points outside the top five.
The fixture list now presents a
critical period for both sides. Villa will look to regroup with a trip to
Bournemouth on Saturday before hosting Brighton on 11 February 2026. Brentford,
buoyed by their heroic performance, face a tough visit to Newcastle this
weekend before a headline clash with league leaders Arsenal at the Gtech
Community Stadium on 12 February.
