Transport minister, AULT discuss expanding operations of Jordan’s freight fleet

Amman, August 21 (Petra) – Minister of Transport Dr. Nidal Qatamin on Thursday discussed ways to facilitate the entry of the Jordanian freight fleet into neighboring countries and European markets to enhance its “competitiveness regionally and internationally.”

Qatamin made the remarks during talks held Thursday with Secretary-General of Arab Union of Land Transport (AULT), Malek Haddad, and Vice Chairman of Board of Directors, Dr. Khaled Laham.

Talking at the meeting, Qatamin said empowering and strengthening Jordan’s land transport fleet and aligning it with international requirements, especially AULT criteria, is an “urgent necessity to enhance its competitiveness.”

Qatamin added that the ministry will work in “every possible way to support its role and improve its performance.”

To achieve this goal, Qatamin noted the ministry will continue joint coordination and cooperation with the AULT to follow up on current proposals and initiatives.

The minister said this collaboration would contribute to develop Jordanian land transport sector and strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a regional hub for trade and transport activities.

According to a ministry statement, the meeting went over the key challenges facing the Kingdom’s land transport sector and ways to enhance ongoing cooperation to facilitate passenger movement by land and ensure “efficient” flow of goods across borders.
