UN Envoy Lauds Oman’s Role in
Facilitating Yemen Prisoner Exchange Agreement

Muscat, 23 Dec 2025 (ONA) — Hans Grundberg, the
United Nations (UN) Special Envoy to Yemen, has expressed his profound
gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for hosting the pivotal negotiations in
Muscat that culminated in the signing of a prisoner exchange agreementfor
Yemen.

In a statement issued by his office,
the Envoy lauded Oman’s diplomatic efforts, underscoring the critical
humanitarian significance of the deal.

The statement confirmed that the
conflict parties concluded intensive discussions held in Oman from 9 to 23
December, successfully reaching an agreement on a new phase for the release of
conflict-related detainees from all sides.

Commenting on the outcome, the UN Special
Envoy stated, “Securing an agreement on another phase of detainee releases
is a positive and crucial step that will help alleviate the immense suffering
of detainees and their families across Yemen.”

He further emphasized that the
“effective implementation of the agreement will require the sustained
engagement and cooperation of the parties, coordinated regional support, and
continuous efforts to build on this progress toward securing further
releases.”

The Office of the UN Special Envoy
reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to continuing its role in facilitating the
implementation of the detainee exchange, in full accordance with established
humanitarian principles.
