Workshop Explores EU-Jordan Cooperation to Advance Green Mining Strategy

Amman, Aug. 14 (Petra) – A workshop for government partners in the mining sector was held on Thursday as part of the “EU Technical Assistance to Support the Green Economy in Jordan” project, aimed at supporting the implementation of the National Mining Strategy.

The event, organized in cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the European Union, included representatives from nine government ministries and institutions.

Representatives from the Ministries of Investment, Environment, Water and Irrigation, Finance, Planning and International Cooperation, Industry, Trade, and Supply, as well as the Royal Jordanian Geographic Center, the Department of Lands and Survey, and the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, participated alongside specialists from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The session addressed technical and strategic cooperation to strengthen EU-Jordan partnerships in mining.

The workshop aimed to explore ways to transform Jordan’s mining sector into a key pillar of economic growth by enhancing governance, modernizing legislative frameworks, stimulating investment, developing value chains, and integrating sustainability principles in line with global trends, including the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

Participants also reviewed progress on the National Mining Strategy, discussed challenges and opportunities, and exchanged experiences with international experts to develop a joint roadmap for the coming years.

Hisham Zayoud, Director of Geology and Mining, emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation and integrated efforts among partners to achieve the goals of the National Mining Strategy and strengthen Jordan’s position as a regional hub for responsible and sustainable mining.
