Amman, Jan. 7 (Petra) – A Royal Jordanian flight departed for Damascus Tuesday on a test run, marking the return of air traffic to Damascus International Airport.
Captain Haitham Misto, Chief Commissioner of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC), explained that the flight serves as a preliminary step before the full resumption of the Amman-Damascus route.
He highlighted that the flight also symbolizes Jordan’s support and solidarity in helping restore Syria’s air traffic operations.
Misto, who was onboard alongside a team of experts from the CARC, the RJ and several aviation experts, stated that the flight’s primary objective is to assess the technical condition of the airport, a process that will be completed in the short term.
He added that the team will work to ensure that Damascus International Airport meets the necessary technical and logistical standards to handle international flights. The airport’s operation will be fully aligned with international safety and security protocols for civil aviation.
