National Basketball Team Begins
Asian Qualifiers Campaign Tomorrow Against Kuwait
Dubai, 25 Aug 2026 (ONA) — Oman’s
senior national basketball team will commence its campaign tomorrow, Wednesday,
in the first window of the preliminary qualifiers for the 2029 Asian Cup
finals, facing Kuwait in Group A of the West Asia zone. The group-stage matches
are being hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and will continue through 31
August.
The national team is competing in
a group that also includes the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Nepal. The group stage
follows a single-round robin format, with the five teams vying for three
qualifying berths to advance to the second round of the preliminary qualifiers.
The national team concluded its preparatory
programme with an external training camp held in Dubai since 16 August. The
camp comprised intensive training sessions and four friendly matches, securing
victories over Sharjah Club (56–52), Maxim Academy (55–53), and Jam Academy
(64–58). The camp was designed to enhance physical and technical readiness
while fostering team cohesion.
