Amman, Jan. 7 (Petra) – The Laboratory and Criminal Evidence Administration at the Public Security Directorate (PSD) completed over 100,000 technical criminal reports in 2024, according to its director, Brig. Gen. Dr. Nayef Zyoud.
Zyoud added that the administration has witnessed “remarkable” development during the reign of His Majesty King Abdullah II, and is now “one of the best bodies globally in terms of efficiency, capacity and credibility.”
In an interview with “Aman FM,” he stated the first criminal evidence laboratory was established in Jordan’s police force in 1965, which reflecets Jordan’s “historical” interest in the security of its citizens and residents, in accordance with “sound” scientific security and legal frameworks.
The administration, he noted, is concerned with “reconstructing the investigative case within scientific evidence” and issues technical reports with “high technical efficiency,” which are the basis of judicial rulings.
On its work mechanism, he said the administration embraced two main axes, adding that the first pertains to criminal investigations, while the other focuses on public safety and civil protection.
The operations are carried out, in cooperation with other competent security units and the relevant official authorities to test and analyze hazardous materials, and issue permits to license and allow their use, he pointed out.
Zyoud pointed to the “strategic” partnership with the other PSD departments to prevent crimes, uncover their circumstances, and arrest perpetrators.
Furthermore, he said the administration-affiliated crime scene department has “highly efficient” teams spread across 23 field divisions, who work to study the crime scene, collect, and analyze samples.
To fulfill its mission, he said this department has 13 technical, chemical and biological laboratories and its experts carry out sample processing operations.
On anther activity, he referred to the administration-affiliated Forensic Sciences Training Center, which offers 60 courses in the related fields.
