RMS introduces new technology in heart treatment

Amman, Jan. 7 (Petra) – The Royal Medical Services (RMS) has introduced a new technology for the first time at the Queen Alia Center for Heart Diseases. The technology, known as “high-voltage ultrasound ablation,” was implemented in collaboration with Boston Scientific, in accordance with the latest global guidelines and standards. This initiative aligns with the Royal Medical Services’ vision to provide the best and most advanced medical services to patients.

Director-General of the Royal Medical Services, Major General Dr. Youssef Zreikat, stated: “We are always striving, as part of the Royal Medical Services’ policy, to incorporate all the latest heart treatment technologies at the Queen Alia Center for Heart Diseases to stay abreast of the latest scientific developments. This helps speed up operations and provides high-quality medical services to patients.”

Head of Cardiac Electrophysiology, Major General Dr. Issa Ghunaim, explained that several operations had been performed using this technology, which is considered a safe alternative for ablation near the pulmonary veins. He added that previous methods involved heat or cooling ablation, which had some complications, such as thrombosis in the pulmonary vein, vagus nerve paralysis, and fistulas between the esophagus and the heart (left ventricle). He emphasized that high-voltage ultrasound ablation is safer and does not affect the surrounding heart tissues, reducing the procedure time compared to other methods.
