Cairo, January 8 (Petra) — The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed Yamahi, condemned on Wednesday the publication of maps by official Israeli government accounts that include Palestinian and Arab lands.
According to a statement, the maps publication coincides with provocative remarks from Israel’s Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who has called for annexing the occupied Palestinian West Bank and expanding settlements in the Gaza Strip.
Yamahi rejected the Israeli provocations that would deny the Palestinian people’s rights and obstruct the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with occupied East Jerusalem as its capital.
He said Israel’s measures represent a “blatant violation” of international resolutions, international law, and humanitarian law, urging a resolute international response.
Yamahi urged the international community and the international and regional parliaments to take responsibility and pressure Israel into ceasing its false claims and aggressive practices.
The Israeli accounts that published the maps, he warned, pose a threat to regional security and stability and infringe upon the rights, lands and national sovereignty of the Palestinian people.
He called for an end to the ongoing war of “extermination and ethnic cleansing” being perpetrated against Palestinians for the past 15 months and implementing the international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
