Arab International Institute for Peace and Education to join ECOSOC

Amman, January 8 (Petra) — Muhammad Abu Al-Rub, the founder of the Arab International Institute for Peace and Education, said on Wednesday that the institute has become a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), according to a statement

In an interview with the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Abu Al-Rub shared that the institute recently concluded its annual general international conference in Amman, which included participation from various committees under its umbrella.

The committees included the Legal Committee, the Media Committee, the Youth Committee, the Education and Technology Committee and the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security Committee.

Abu Al-Rub explained that the Legal Committee, which comprises nine lawyers from nine countries, plays a “crucial” role in defining the legal aspects of the institute’s correspondence with and engagement with the United Nations.

Meanwhile, the Media Committee seeks to broaden communication efforts and strengthen connections with various segments of society domestically and internationally.

He said the Education and Technology Committee is focused on advancing the institute’s mission of promoting education and raising awareness about technology in education.

The Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security Committee aims to enhance production quality, ensure food security and preserve environmental and water resources, he added.

Abu Al-Rub outlined several benefits of the institute’s upcoming membership in ECOSOC, including the ability to attend and participate in UN meetings in Geneva, Vienna and New York and to consult with the heads of various offices of the UN General Secretariat on matters of mutual interest.

The institute will gain access to meeting rooms and documents during public sessions of the General Assembly on economic, social and related issues.

It will be able to organise informal discussions on special issues and benefit from press and documentation services at the United Nations.
