Lower House Speaker Highlights Jordan’s Leading Role in Empowering Women

Amman, January 12 (Petra) — Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Ahmad Safadi underscored Jordan’s pioneering efforts in supporting women across various sectors, emphasizing their significant contributions in positions of leadership.

Speaking on Sunday while chairing part of a meeting of the Jordanian Women Parliamentarians Forum, Safadi reiterated the council’s commitment to backing initiatives that enhance women’s societal roles. He praised Jordanian women for demonstrating exceptional competence in every role they have undertaken.

MP Tamara Nasser Al-Din, head of the forum, outlined the forum’s work program, aimed at fostering collaboration with civil society organizations focused on women’s and family issues. She highlighted the program’s comprehensive plan designed to align with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals, particularly Goal 5, which emphasizes achieving gender equality and empowering women.

The program prioritizes legislative and social initiatives tailored to Jordan’s values and societal norms while promoting women’s empowerment in political, economic, and social domains. Al-Din stressed the need to strengthen women’s representation in leadership and decision-making positions as part of the national drive for political modernization.

Forum members presented several proposals, including conducting specialized studies and launching initiatives to underscore women’s empowerment. They emphasized that advancing women’s roles in decision-making and society is crucial to achieving sustainable development and enhancing political modernization in the Kingdom.
